Barrette's Small Engines Inc. - SmallEngines.ca FAQ's

Why would a person want one style over the other?

Wheel-drive is sufficient for most snow thrower operations. It generally is not paired with power steering, but may allow (on some models) for independent wheel operation if so designed.

Track-drive (models with rubberized tank or bulldozer style drive tracks) models are beneficial for persons who have more of a sloping or uneven surface to clear. Track-drive allows for increased traction and always includes power steering to assist maneuvering on this type of surface. Track-drive provides the greatest amount of traction and is especially popular those persons with sloping driveways and driveways that experience occasional heavy icing conditions.
