Typically, the primer bulb begins to deteriorate once the fuel becomes stale. Ensure that only clean, fresh fuel is used in the engine, and that it is treated with a fuel stabilizer such as Briggs & Stratton Fresh Start Fuel Stabilizer (part # BS 100002).
