Drive pulleys are generally a snug fit to the pulley shaft by design. Idler pulleys may have bearing sets or bushings that need to be similarly snug to the shaft.Corrosion and dirt contamination may contribute to this condition making these pulleys difficult to separate for service. Service personnel may want to try and use penetrating oil* in combination with gentle vibration to loosen these parts.

In severe cases, the use of a pulley puller tool may be necessary to separate these assemblies. Pulley puller tools are available at most hardware, tool, and automotive supply stores.

*SERVICE TIP! - Be careful not to get oil on the inside of the pulley or on the drive belts as this may result in belt slippage when the belt and pulley are returned to use.
