Barrette's Small Engines Inc. - SmallEngines.ca FAQ's
What is the difference between a Lawn Tractor, Garden Tractor, and Mid-Engine Rider?
A Lawn Tractor is a front-engine rider, primarily used for lawn work such as mowing, mulching, and bagging. The LT may also be used with other accessories such as snow removal equipment and a pull behind tiller. Presently, LT's are equipped with a 40", 42", 46" or 52" cutting deck. We also manufacture a 38" LT for export accounts.
A Garden Tractor is a front-engine rider, and may be used for the same functions as an LT. GT's are equipped with a heavy-duty transaxle, which allows them to use gardening accessories such as a plow, disc harrow, and cultivator. GT's are equipped with either a 46" or 52" cutting deck.
A Mid-Engine Rider is only used for lawn work such as mowing, mulching, or bagging. Most MER's only come equipped to mow and mulch. Only grass catchers and lawn sweepers may be purchased separately as accessories. Unlike an LT or a GT, the MER has the engine located underneath the seat. This mower is only available with a 30" cutting deck.
