Barrette's Small Engines Inc. - FAQ's

Why do some models of walk behind mowers have oversized rear wheels ?

The larger rear wheels make the mower roll more easily and travel more smoothly. This is helpful for navigating over uneven or difficult terrain.

The physics of motion requires less force to propel an angled drive (in this case the angled mower handle) transferred into the axle of a larger circumference of wheel then to move the same amount of load force over a similar surface transferred to the axle of a smaller diameter wheel.
